In April, the fruity beverage producer Riedel, based in Ede, implemented the new Astro WMS® from Consafe Logistics. The WMS improves efficiency, but more importantly for Riedel it improves control over the stock, which in part consists of fruity beverages with a limited shelf life.
Riedel completed a tender in October 2019, when the decision was made to opt for the Astro WMS® solution from Consafe Logistics. Bas Nas, Project Manager at Riedel, says: “The most important advantage of Astro WMS® is that the standard solution is rich in features and extensive in functionality, so that in our case little extra customization was required. As a result, implementation is fast and efficient. We started in January and are already ‘live’ in mid-April. All this time we have continued to produce our fruity beverages without any delays.”
Martin Monster, Project manager at Consafe, was responsible for the implementation. He adds: “The complexity of Riedel’s logistics lies in three things: the enormous variation in the product range, the fast delivery times required and the fact that some of the products have a limited shelf life. To start with the range: Riedel supplies several brands with a wide variety of flavors and packaging. Some of the products have a limited shelf life, and then there is the time factor. Short delivery times apply to many supermarket orders, so a strict check on stocks and shelf life data is of great importance. Astro WMS® knows exactly which packaging of which brand and with which expiry date are in which place.”
Bas Nas adds: “Every day multiple full trucks leave our warehouse to go and supply supermarkets in the Netherlands and Belgium. During the same day, we replenish the warehouse with new stock from our production. Astro WMS® supports the entire process. The software is equipped with artificial intelligence that sends the order pickers exactly to the right location.”
Riedel is a medium-sized company based in Ede. The annual turnover is approximately 190 million euros.
